Online scratch cards
We’ve all seen them…
Online scratch cards are normally available as free
or real versions, the first of which you play for fun
(though it’s debatable how much fun can really
be had by repeatedly moving your cursor over a screen
for no real purpose), the latter of which you play for
a real stake.
Scratch cards are a form of gambling and as such should
be regulated by the authorities in the country where
the operating company is based. If they are operating
in an unregulated environment, then there probably aren’t
any laws governing how they can behave – not exactly
favourable conditions.
If you come across games that claim to offer an instant
chance of winning money, but which don’t first
ask you to register or set up an account, our advice
is to be sceptical as to their validity. Even ones where
your name and email address are required are probably
not doing enough to suggest that they are genuine offers.
This is a common tactic for accumulating marketing information
– your great chance of success can turn out to
be nothing more than a ploy to enable the company in
question to sell your details on to whoever will buy
them.
It is possible to find online scratch cards that don’t
involve you paying out any money, but which do offer
some chance of winning. Many of these are simply advertisements
that are encouraging you to click through, but very
occasionally they are the real deal.
As a rule of thumb the safest ways to play online
scratch card games are the ‘fun’ ones which
involve neither spending money nor giving out your details,
or to play the real money games available in established
casinos. These games are playable for either a preset
amount of money, or for a stake which you can control
as with other casino games.
