We’ve all seen them…

They advertise the massive number of prizes, including cash, cars, electrical goods and holidays. You scratch off the panels, and lo and behold you are a winner. Not only that, but you are a superior winner, which means that the value of your prize is guaranteed to be substantially more than the cost of your call.

There are a few things you should be aware of before phoning the prize hotline:

Firstly, the cost of your call is likely to be pretty high, often as much as £7.50.

Secondly, you are almost certain to win the lowest value prize on offer, such as 6 packets of garden seeds or an imitation leather wallet.

Thirdly, there is every chance that your ‘prize’ will be discount vouchers to give you money off some other purchase, such as £150 off when you spend more than £2000 with a travel company.

Fourthly, and finally, you will probably either have to go somewhere to collect your prize in person, or alternatively you’ll have to send your entry by recorded delivery. Even then, it is no guarantee that your prize will ever turn up.
